Durian Season in Bali Now

Durian
Love it or hate it: Durian

Bali Durian

Of unique odour (you might say it stinks) and formidable thorn-covered husk, this seasonable fruit is a must when in Bali.

Check it out, eg in Tabanan, on the way to Bedugul, in the area of Baturiti you will find a few vendors at roadside stalls selling durian for IDR 20.000-100.000/piece. Price depends on quality and size.
If you you prefer the more convenient way, just pick them up in the supermarket, but don’t expect best quality and price…

For the brave amongst you: make some durian juice, rare and delicious!

Great Spa and Good Value

We booked our 4 hour Honeymoon package at Boutique Spa Sekar Jagat over the internet (spa’s own website) which gives you a bit of a discount on their rates. We didn’t have to pay for it in advance - it was just to book an appointment; we received an email confirmation from the owner the next day with all details of pick up etc and were all set.

Our driver was on time and at the spa we were greeted by the staff and the owner, discussed the details of our package (we made some changes to it, e.g. a head & shoulder massage & reflexology instead of manicure/pedicure - no extra fees for that) & meal (I requested a vegetarian one and it wasn’t a problem).

The treatment we had was just the most incredible & relaxing 4 hours! As a couple we had a lovely private room with two beds, all in Balinese style & decorations, and took the blossom bath together which was very romantic. Our masseuses were very professional and gave us both great treatments. At the end of our treatment we had our meal and even though the website says it’s a ‘light meal’ - for us it was a proper filling dinner, real big portions and delicious!

After that the driver took us back to our hotel. All in all we had a really good time in Boutique Spa Sekar Jagat and would recommend it to anyone; I believe especially the couples would find the Honeymoon package real romantic and also a great value!

Dress-up in Balinese Costume

Occasionally we put some make-up on our guests, wrap them in traditional Balinese costumes and take a few pictures of them. The whole procedure (dress-up, make-up, shooting, take-off) takes about 2 hours.

You also may take pictures with your own camera. Our shots you’ll get burned on compact disc (and a selection printed) a few hours later on site, or delivered to your hotel the next day. Costs US$75 per couple, US$50 for single. Book at least one day in advance. Photo-shooting takes place during daylight.

Nyepi, Bali’s Day of Silence | 26 March 2009

On Nyepi no lights may be lit

Nyepi, the Hindu Day of Absolute Silence, this year from 6 a.m. on 26 March until 6 a.m. on 27 March, marks the dawn of a new year on the Bali-Hindu calender. Hindus are not allowed to turn on lights or light fires, may not do physical activities and cannot travel or take part in entertainment.

Travellers are not allowed to leave the hotel, they have to stay within the hotel’s premises.

Even the International airport will be closed, but air planes will be able to transit for technical landings and for fuel refilling.

Famous ogoh-ogoh monster parades, traditionally on eve of Nyepi, do NOT happen this year due to election campaigns.
