Nyepi: Balinese New Year, 16 March 2010

Balinese New Year, known as Nyepi or Day of Silence, will take place on Tuesday 16 March 2010. Local custom requires that all people in Bali observe a day of silence from 6am on Tuesday 16 March 2010 until 6am Wednesday 17 March 2010. Authorities require that all people in Bali stay indoors, make no noise and switch off all lights for the duration of this period. The Balinese Hindus consider “Nyepi” to be the most important day on the religious calendar and these prohibitions are taken very seriously.

Durian Season in Bali Now

Durian
Love it or hate it: Durian

Bali Durian

Of unique odour (you might say it stinks) and formidable thorn-covered husk, this seasonable fruit is a must when in Bali.

Check it out, eg in Tabanan, on the way to Bedugul, in the area of Baturiti you will find a few vendors at roadside stalls selling durian for IDR 20.000-100.000/piece. Price depends on quality and size.
If you you prefer the more convenient way, just pick them up in the supermarket, but don’t expect best quality and price…

For the brave amongst you: make some durian juice, rare and delicious!

Happy New Year!

Sekar Jagat Spa Bali
& Sekar Taman Bali Spa Products wish you a joyful 2010!

Let this coming year be better than all the others. Vow to do some of the things you’ve always wanted to do but couldn’t find the time. Call up a forgotten friend. Drop an old grudge, and replace it with some pleasant memories. Vow not to make a promise you don’t think you can keep. Walk tall, and smile more. You’ll look ten years younger. Don’t be afraid to say, ‘I love you’. Say it again. They are the sweetest words in the world.

Travel Advice for Bali & Indonesia | Bali Travel Tools

Several governments give regularly updated advice for travellers to Indonesia. These reports deal with threats to safety and security such as terrorism, civil unrest/political tension, natural disasters, severe weather and climate and health issues.

So we have put together a few links for you:

Our personal advice for your own safety on Bali:

  • Keep in mind that many Bali beaches are afflicted with dangerous riptides and undercurrents. So please take care while having fun in the water.
  • Beware of the traffic, be careful when crossing busy roads. Wear a helmet while riding a motorbike, use safety belt while driving a car.

Great Spa and Good Value

We booked our 4 hour Honeymoon package at Boutique Spa Sekar Jagat over the internet (spa’s own website) which gives you a bit of a discount on their rates. We didn’t have to pay for it in advance - it was just to book an appointment; we received an email confirmation from the owner the next day with all details of pick up etc and were all set.

Our driver was on time and at the spa we were greeted by the staff and the owner, discussed the details of our package (we made some changes to it, e.g. a head & shoulder massage & reflexology instead of manicure/pedicure - no extra fees for that) & meal (I requested a vegetarian one and it wasn’t a problem).

The treatment we had was just the most incredible & relaxing 4 hours! As a couple we had a lovely private room with two beds, all in Balinese style & decorations, and took the blossom bath together which was very romantic. Our masseuses were very professional and gave us both great treatments. At the end of our treatment we had our meal and even though the website says it’s a ‘light meal’ - for us it was a proper filling dinner, real big portions and delicious!

After that the driver took us back to our hotel. All in all we had a really good time in Boutique Spa Sekar Jagat and would recommend it to anyone; I believe especially the couples would find the Honeymoon package real romantic and also a great value!
